OBITUARY.

DR. W. J. MACKAY. The death has occurred in Nelson of Dr. W. J. Mackay, aged 83, after a long illness. A native of Ireland, he graduated M.D. at Brussels in 1885, L.R.C.r. and L.M. (Ireland), and L.R.C.S. in 1878. On going to Nelson he was in private practice up to the time ho was appointed resident surgeon at the Nelson Hospital in 1900. Ho also acted as medical officer at the Mental Hospital. After many years' service he retired and settled in Nelson. Dr. Mackay was a staunch churchman, being for many years a member of the Diocesan Synod, and a lay canon of the Cathedral. He is survived by a widow and three sons. MR. A. DOUGALL. The death occurred suddenly on the Khandallah bowling green yesterday afternoon of Mr. Archibald Dougall, solo proprietor of the engineering firm of Dougall, Crombs and Company, Limited, and a well-known citizen of Wellington.
