LAND AGENTS' CARS.
PARKING RESTRICTIONS. REQUEST FOR EXEMPTION. A request that special consideration should bo given to land agents if a zoning plan for car parking is introduced was made to the By-laws Committee of the Wellington City Council last week bv a deputation from the Wellington branch Of the Real Estate Agents' Institute. It was contended that motor-cars wero essential to the conduct of land agents' business, and if they were not allowed to park their cars outsido their business places they might as well go out of business. Land agents' cars, it was suggested, might be given a distinguishing mark and the present arrangements be allowed to continue as far as they were concerned. It was stated that the agents had not considered paying a special fee for such a privilege, though they might be prepared to do so. One speaker said he thought, however, that already land agents were taxed fairly heavily and that it would not bo fiiir to ask them to pay more. The chairman of the committee said that in such a problem the council could not meet everyone. People came into town to do business and could not find a placo to leave their cars, and merchants complained that customers could not, get their cars near their shops and warehouses. It could not be urged that the council should allow people to use the streets as fre<* garages. The representations made would be fully considered.
