THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. GOVERNMENT SECURITIES FALL. Business at the single cnll on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Saturday was comparatively active, eight sales being rocorded. In most sections late rates were maintained, but Government securities registered a sharp decline. The 1937 5g per cent, bonds were secured 10s lower at, £97 JOs. which was tho limit of buyers' offers, while holders quoted £9B For 1937 5j per cent, stock buyers reduced their offers 10s to £97, and holders quoted 7s 6d in advance at £9B ss. A parcel of 1938 4A per cent, stock was released 10s lower at £92 10s, holders quoting £93. Buyers were not represented in other issues. There was a sale of Otahuhu Borough 1961 6 per cent, dobent ures at £99. Banks were again in fair demand on the basis of late quotations. The only salo was in Now South Wales unchanged at £25. Insurance were not sought, buyers offering only for South British unchanged at 495. Holders quoted 9d lower at 50s 3d for South British. Levels in other sections showed very slight alteration. For Colonial Sugars buyers advanced 5s to £35 15s, but holders wore not quoted. In general, there was a slight firming tendency in offers. Mining was particularly active, the majority of sales being at increased rates. Mount Lyells changed hands 2d higher at 19s 3d, at which figure more were sought, while holders reduced their limits to quoto 4d lower at 19s 4d. Waihis were released unchanged at 16s, and buyers advanced their offers. After a dull period Okarito were in demand and a salo took place 2d lower at 9s 3d. Buyers' closing offers advanced slightly. There was a salo in Mahakipawa jd higher at 3d.

The International Institute of Agriculture at Rome estimates the cane sugar production in the season 1931-32 at 17,911,000 short tons, a decrease of 2 per cent,, on the previous year. Beet sugar production is estimated at. 9,400,799 short tons, a decrease of 26 per cent.
