Weatherhog, formerly vicar of Oiorohanga, has been appointed chaplain of All Saints' Church, and 0 f the Missions to Seamen, Rio de Janeiro. Sir William Ellis, managing-director of John Brown and Company, Clydebank who has been on a tour of the South Is! land, was in Wellington at the week, end. Mr. d'Auvergne Boxall, a member of the Canterbury Society of Arts, now resident in Adelaide, has been appointed ' assistant art master at the Sydnev Technical College. Sir James Parr, Lender of the Legislative Council, left Wellington on Friday for the purpose of delivering addresses on Empire trade at Danncvirke and Hastings, ■ under the auspices of the respective Rotary Clubs and Chambers of Commerce. The Hon. A. 51. Zwar and Mr. B. M Zwar, of Melbourne, Mr. W. Strang and Mr. G. Strang, of Heretaunga, Mr. A. D. Paterson, of Christchurch, Mr. R. H. Goldthorpe, of Wellington, and Mr. G. Benson, of Dunedin, are at the Grand Hotel.
Mr. C. I. Dasent will retire at the end of the present month from the secretaryship of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, which he has held for the past 25 years. At its meeting last week thd council of the society placed on record its appreciation of his services to acclimatisation in the Dominion.
