TWO MEN CHASED.
ONE ARRESTED BY POLICE. THEFT FROM BOWLING CLUB. A chase across the grounds of the Auckland Bowling Club, Grifton Road, on Saturday night resulted in the arrest of one of two men, the other escaping into tho Domain. It was subsequently discovered that the club's pavilion had been broken into and several articles of cutlery and crockery stolen. The movements of two men aroused the suspicions of Mr. T. Newton, caretaker of the Stanley Street tennis courts, when he "was driving past the- bowling club's grounds shortly before 11 o'clock to call on tho caretaker, Mr. W. Cairns. Tho lights of his car picked up the men, who disappeared into tho bowling club's grounds. Mr. Newton told Mr. Cairns what he had seen and "the latter communicated with the central police station. Constables Anderson and Wilson arrived and two men who were walking through the grounds were chased. One was arrested, but tho otjicr man outdistanced pursuit. The arrested man will appear in the Polico Court this morning.
