TEA CROWING.
Sir, —"Whether the North is saiiabla for this industry I ca.an.ot say, not having been there. The main points for this industry are soil, climate and rainfall., Soil should be of light loam •with abnaI dance of vegetable matter, and as the ; plant has a long tap root the soil most j be deep and also well drained, for stagnant moisture is fatal. To grew tea it is not necessary to have one uniform climate. The Chinese variety thrives best in the hills up to 5000 ft. elevation and the Assam kinds prefer law valleys aad plains, where the air is hot aad moist. A good rainfall is necessary. In Assam the temperature ranges from SO degrees F. to 96 degrees F. and the rainfall is from 100 te 120 inches per ansa hi. Perhaps someone interested would state if the North compiles with these conditions as te elevation, soil, temperature and rainfall, when I would be pleased to give full particulars. IL L. Wessiee . Te Awamatn.
