CHILDREN'S CALF CLUBS.
SUCCESS IN BAY OF PLENTY. TROPHIES FOR BEST ANIMALS. The success attained by tho children's calf clubs established in the Wnnganni school districts has been duplicated in the Bay of Plenty, where the Eangitaiki Girls and Boys' Calf Club,' recruited from children attending the schools in the Awakeri, Edgecurnbe, Otakiri, Taneatua, Tc Teko and Thorndon districts, is experiencing commendable results. The calves reared by the children aro confined to light-grade and heavy-grade Jerseys, pedigree stock being barred. Charts are maintained showing the history of the rearing of the calves from birth. To encourage the competitors, a harid--501110 mounted shield, donated by the Bangitaiki Dairy Company, is presented for the best light Jersey, won recently by the Te Teko School; a silver trophy, donated privately for the best heavy Jersey, won by Edgecurnbe; and a medallion for the best chart, won by Otakiri. The judges, who gave their services voluntarily, commented on Ihe great advance shown in the rearing, handling and quality of the animals, showing tho value of the instruction given last year. The judges also gave a demonstration at each school illustrating the necessary points to produce a good type of calf. These will be remembered this year, when the scholars themselves will be asked to judge. At the last competition nearly 100 calves were presented from the various Schools. This year there is reason to believe that the club will be still more successful with a higher list of entries. The judges and officials were as follows:—Mr. N. Carter, Whnkatane; Mr. Fleming, Waimana: Mr. Urquhart, Opotiki; Mr. Watt, Tauranga; and Mr. Walker, Te Poke.
