EXCURSION TO CITY.

VISITORS FROM WAIHEKE. Over 200 residents of Waiheke Island, who wero invited to bo the guests of the managing agents of the excursion steamer Duchess, arrived by the vessel yesterday on a day trip to the city. The steamer berthed shortly after 11 o'clock with holiday-makers from Onetangi, Ostend, Palm Beach, Surfdale and Oneroa, all of whom had been brought to tho wharf at Matiatia from the different parts of the island by free motor-buses. Those who took advantage of tho trip included men. women and children, most of whom came to the eity in carnival mood. The holiday-makers, who were entertained on the voyage by music and served with light refreshments, spent the day and the evening enjoying the sights of the city and theatrical entertainments. They returned to their homes after 11 p.m.
