BOY DIES IN HOSPITAL.
FRACTURE OF THE SKULL. STRUCK BY SULKY SHAFT. The death occurred in the Auckland Hospjtal shortly before nine o'clock last evening of Ronald Pateman, aged 14, who received a fracture of the skull as the result of an accident at We'stfield on Wednesday afternoon. The boy was cycling across an overhead bridge on the Great South Road, on his return from work to his home at Green Park Road, One Tree Hill, when he was struck on the head by a shaft of a sulky. The horse drawing the vehicle, which was driven by Mr. A. McCorquindale, of Otahuhu, suddenly shied. Pateman was thrown heavily to the ground and was admitted to the hospital in a critical oondition.
