EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD. POSITION OF THE GOVERNOR. The following are extracts from tha New Zealand Herald of January 10i 1882: " I hear, on what seems very good authority, that the departure of Sir Arthur Gordon from New Zealand practically stands postponed indefinitely in consequence of certain communications received by His Excellency from tha imperial authorities," telegraphs the Herald's Wellington correspondent. « is believed that it has been found that there is no eligible opening just at tB present time for the utilisation 01 o Arthur's abilities in the service of o» country, and that he will therefore sojourn some time longer in the uncongenial political atmosphere of land.
