HOLIDAY WEEK.

DEAR GIRLS AND BOYS: ' What a lovely week it has been —full Df sunshine and the real holiday spirit! [ am sure there must bo many blistered ihoulders and burned faces as a result pf this glorious spell of old-time summer weather, although when I look at my poor wilting garden 1 can't help wishing we could arrange for a few soaking showers some night when everybody is safely ticked away in bed ! I spent ono day of tho holidays at Waihi Beach, and what a beautiful day it was! t We picnicked beneath tho splendid pohutukawas on the hillside, and afterwards went for a dip in the surf. I don't think I have ever seen such fine breakers for diving through since I was at Manly and Coogee ten years ago. They broke one at a time, great green walls of water that gathered slowly, and crashed in a snowy smother of spray. And what a thrill there-is in taking a header right through that glass-green wall, the very instant before it topples and crashes! I wonder how many of you know the fun of diving through the breakers this way ? I have often tried it out at Kare Kare and Piha, but the waves there are so strong and rough, and the surf so broken, that it is a very strenuous form of fun, particularly if there is any back-wash. But the waves were just right at Waihi Beach, and we had a delightful bathe, followed by a long motor-run home to Te Aroha as the sun was setting. I would'like you to tell me some of your own holiday experiences, so LetterBox Corner is now open for entries, halfcrown cash prizes or stars for all letters published. Mark envelopes " Holiday Let ' tor Contest." Be sure you read to-day about our snapshot contest, and don't miss the article! by " Old Timer," who gives us somo iriare interesting reminiscences of his boyhood in London.' I received so many letters of appreciation.of his former articles, that I induced him to jot down some morn recollections of those early days. Love and best wishes for continued holiday happiness, from
