AMERICAN PRESIDENCY.
MOVE BY INDEPENDENTS. THIRD PARTY CONTEMPLATED. WASHINGTON, Dec. 20. The Independent Republicans in -the Senate arc seriously considering a. third party movement in 1932 in the event of the Republican and Democrat conventions failing to nominate for the Presidency a man to their liking. The group is opposed to the renonnnation of Mr. Hoover, and conferences have been held with the aim of contesting his ienomination, but no candidate has been agreed upon. . , Mr. G. W. Norri.s, of Nebraska, has been asked to contest the post against Mr. Hoover, but has declined. Mr. Norris, however, is definitely understood to be ready to support any of the lour candidates now under consideration. If a third party is organised--he-is looked upon, together with Mr. L. Boiah, as likely to head the "ticket." The possible candidates are Messrs. Borah, H. W. Johnson, of California, and Pinchot, of Pennsylvania. Privately it is intimated that none of tne potential Democrat candidates, with the possible exception of Mi'. Franklin I). Roosevelt, Governor of New York, is acceptable. Mr. Borah always has stood by the Republican Party, but lie has been in frequent conflict with Mr. Hoovei s policy, principally in regard to taiiH and farm relief.
