Peat., Titirangi, has left, to visit Mrs. Cecil Webster, of Whangarei. Mrs. W. J. Braun, of Waiuku, is visiting her parents, ]\fr. and Mrs. W. R. Lewis, of Fitzroy Street, Papatoetoe. Miss Joan Crawford, of Gisborne, is visiting Auckland, where sho ir. the guest of Mrs. F. Snoad, Jubilee Avenue, Devonport. Mrs. D. McAllum, of New Plymouth, is visiting Mrs. B. 11. Chancy, of Auckland, who has taken a house at Thome's Beach for the summer holidays. 'Mrs. K. Stewart Wright and her daughters, tho Misses Enid and Gwen Wright, returned from a visit to England on tho Rangitano last week. They are spending a few days in Auckland before proceeding to Whangarei. Another city of England to appoint a woman to what has hitherto usually been recognised as a man's position, is the city of Nottingham, which recently appointed Mrs. Caroline Harper, one of its councillors, as Sheriff of Nottingham. Sho is tho first woman to hold the office in that city. A woman scientist who attended tho centenary meeting of tho British Association for tho Advancement of Science, is Miss Beatrice Blackwood. Miss Blackwood is a university demonstrator in ethnology at Oxford, but two years ago was granted leave of absenco so that sho might accept tho offer made to her by tlie Institute of Human Relations, Yale University, to study tho family life and conditions of a primitive community in the South Sea Islands. Mrs. Nancie Glen Kidson, the 25-years-old widow of Commander Glen Kidson, the airman who was killed in a crash in Africa last May, is to remarry in London next month, states a London writer. Her engagement to Mr. Edmund C. Reginald Sheffield, second son of Sir Berkeley Sheffield, Bart., of Normanby Park, Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, was announced in November. News of tho engagement leaked out when Mrs. Kidson was in Scotland with a shooting party which included Mr. Sheffield. Mrs. Kidson is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Soames, of Chester Square, Pimlico, S.W. _ She was married to Commander Glen Kidson in 1925, and has a four-years-old son, Archie. Commander Kidson left the whole of his fortune of £200,000 to the boy. Mr. Sheffield is 22.
