Arajcan was first out in Hie opening event fit the Manawatu meeting to-day and settled down in behind the leaders, 'Babel and tialtjjofc. to the straight. Turn, getting, a, clear run on tho rails, she won very comfortably. Arrowhead and Blacksmith led all the way in tiie 11 igh-weight Handicap and never looked like being caught. When it came to the finish Biack.-mith wore down Arrowhead and von narrowly. War/.one, who }iad followed them in the running J hronghout. v.as a moderate third and Vitaphone a poor fourth. Hampden led throughout in the hack eprfnt, for which he was a solid favourite, and won fairly comfortably, but ho was lucky to escape more serious danger from Eminent, who drew an outside position and could not get an early position. He looked decidedly unlucky, though Hampden won well. The extra weight told on Solitaire Jf.
