RACES AT ELLERSLIE.

TODAY'S ACCEPTANCES. SUMMER CUP CONTEST. CHANCES OF LADY PAM. EIGHT IN KING'S TLATE. The Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting will be continued at Ellerslie today, when the chief events will be the Summer Cup and the King's Plate. There is a select field of eight in the King's Plate, which is run over a mile at weight-for-age, and the contest should be full of interest. The race will provide a meeting between the brilliant three-year oids Bronze Eagle and Golden Wings, with good older horses such as Cadland, Supremacy and Karapoti. and should prove one of the tit-bits of the day's racing. Good fields are engaged in the other events and the prospects generally for high-class racing are bright. Following are the acceptances with a review of the prospects in each race by "Archer";— 11.47—FERGUSSON HANDICAP. Of £250; 1 mile, st. lb. st. lb. Nea Lap ..95 L'Allegro ..85 Jalldy Karo . 9 1 Bronze Tray . 8 0 Juniper ... 9 0 Exaggeration . 713 Te Money ..88 Hit the Deck 7 10 Trishna ... 8 6 K. of Australia 7 5 Chief Jewel . 8 6 Pateena .... 7 0 Beacon Fire . 8 6 Form on the first day points to Nea, Lap and Juniper racing prominently and Nea Lap will only require to reproduce her Queen's Plate performance to take considerable beating. Beacon Fire and Bronze Tray, who were unlucky in their races on the first day, are others worthy of respect, and Knight of Australia is a newcomer likely to make a bold showing. Knight of Australia won well at his last start and although this field is stronger he should go well with his light weight. Other possibilities are Chief Jewel, Hit the Deck and Trishna and altogether the issue is fairly open. Horses who may be well supported are:— KNIGF4T OF AUSTRALIA. NEA LAP. BRONZE TRAY. 12,27—KING'S PLATE. Of £500; weiglU-for age; 1 mile. st. lb. st, lb. Cadland .... 0 2 Bronze Eagle 8 2 Supremacy - . 9 2 Golden Wings 8 2 Karapoti • . '.l 0 High Comedy 8 2 Baroscope . . o 2 Bugle Call ..82 A brilliant, three-year-old like Bronze Eagle should more, than hold his own in this race, even though the field is good and his prospects appear very rosy. Bronze Eagle went under to Golden Wings in the Great Northern Guineas in October, but he has improved so much in the meantime that he should turn the tables on this occasion. Golden Wings, however, may again prove a formidable opponent, Karapoti would also prove very dangerous if back to his best form, tut he appears to be below that and recent form suggests that Cadland and Supremacy may give the three-year-olds most trouble. The favourites are likely to be BRONZE EAGLE, CADLAND. 1.17 PONSONBY HURDLES. Of £400; 2 miles. st. lb. st. lb. Pennyplain . . 10 12 Dominican ..90 Cruachan ... 10 0 Cat-i-mes ..90 Simeon ... 913 Royal Action . 9 0 Nassock ... 9 9 Kawainga ..90 Russet Moor . 9 7 Creina's King 9 0 Advance Camp 9 2 Gold. Wedding 9 0 Billy Boy ..90 Kairuri ... 9 0 Patutahi ... 9 0 A rise of 12lb. may steady Pennyplain a little, but he won really well on Saturday and should again race prominently. On form Russet. Moor and Advance Camp should be his most formidable opponents, particularly Russet Moor, who hit a fence very hard on the first day. Simeon is another with a good chance and Cruachan. a newcomer, should also be dangerous. Others who may make bold showings are Nassock, Golden Wedding and Kairuri. Investors may follow form and support RUSSET MOOR. PENNYPLAIN. SIMEON. 2.7—SUMMER CUP. Of £850; U miles. st. fV. st. lb. Pegaway ... 10 1 Baroscope . . 710 Lady Pam ..91 Pomp 7 5 C'ompris . . . 811 Jaloux ... 7 5 Seatown . . . 81L Chromadyne . 7 0 Admiral Drake 8 7 Dunraven ..70 Prince Val . 8 5 Royal Artist .70 Royal Doulton 8 1 White Wings . 7 0

Practically every horse in the field has shown ability to run the distance solidly and it is a difficult race. Pegaway should go well, with all his weight, and all the others, from Lady Pam down to Royal Doulton, should be capable of good performances. There are also many possibilities among the light-weights and the best of them may be Baroscope, if started, Pomp, Chromadyne. .Taloux and Dunraven. Chromadyne has not yet won beyond a, mile, but other members of his family have performed well over middle distances and there is no reason why he. should not do likewise. In a good betting race the main fancies may be LADY PAM, PEGAWAY. ROYAL DOULTON. 2.S2—CRITERION HANDICAP. Of £3,"in; two-year-olds; 5 fur. st. lb. st,. lb. Closing Time . 0 0 Te Waipu ... 8 3 Midinette . . 813 Delire. . . . 711 Gold Trail ... 8 6 Roman Mascot 7 7 Princess Bell . 8 1 With the exception of Roman Mascot, all the candidates for this race have slioif.i some form in public and it should 1,11 interesting contest. The form of Midinette and Closing Time reads best, and they should make it difficult for the. others. Gold Trail should again run a solid race and possibly Princess Bell and Delice may showsufficient improvement to also figure prominently. Those who may, command most support are MIDINETTE. CLOSING TIME, GOLD TRAIL.

This race is confined to horses who have not won a rare of more than seven furlongs, but there are a. number in the field who should run a, middle distance solidly. Speedmint, should be very difficult to beat and others who should run rr<-»od races are Grand Spirit, Princess Bede. Yalmarie. Principal, King's Knave, Speedfast, United and Sunny Sky. The favourites may include SPEFDMINT, GRAND SPIRIT. KING'S KNAVE.

4.27—ELECTRIC HANDICAP, Of £450; 6 fur. st. lb. fit. lb. Lady Quex ..89 Royal Bnler . . V 10 Leitrim ... 8 6 Great Star ..77 Paganelli ..85 Arisus .... 7 6 Spoon .... 8 3 Tea Chat ..74 Gay Lap . . 713 Persham ... 7 0 High Comedy 7 10 Form in the Railway Handicap, which is usually worth following, suggests pood chances for Gay Lap and Arisus and they will only neerl to repeat Saturday's form to be well in the picture. Tea Chat, who went well from an outside ijost position in the Railway, in which he had all the worst of the running, should do better here. The newcomers. Leitrim and Persham, should also be very dangerous, particularly Leitrim. and others with chances nre Lady Quex, High Comedy, Pag-anelli and Spoon. The draw for post positions may have an influence on the betting, but there may be good support for LEITRIM, ARISUS, TEA CHAT. S.I7—PLUNKET HANDICAP. Of £350; 1 mile. st. lb. st. lb. Silvermine ..92 Taurua ... 8 4 Volimond . . 813 Sir Mond ..82 Vali .... 8 8 Flying Prince 8 1 Antique ... 8 7 Catoma -.••77 Autumn Sun . 8 6 Karangapai . 7 7 Green Linnet 8 4 Chief: Cook ..77 Some good milers are included in this field and the event bears an open aspect. Form says a good deal for the chance of Autumn Sun, but he will receive plenty of opposition from horses like Silvermine, Volimond. Vali, Antique, Taurua, Sir Mond. Chief Cook. Flying Prince and Karangapai. It should be a fine betting race and strong support may be accorded to CHIEF COOK, TAURUA. SILVERMINE.

ELLERSLIE TRACK-WORK.

LEITRI M'S FAST HALF-MILE. ARRIVAL* OF LADY PAM. BY ARCHER. The No. 1 grass, which was very fast, was available for galloping at, Ellerslie yesterday and, although it was not extensively used, several smart sprinting efforts were recorded. Leitrim running tho best half-mile in 48s, and Chromadyne tho best five furlongs in 1.2 4-5. Sir Mond (R. Reed) and Golden Wedding (Cammick) were associated over seven furlongs in 1.34 2-". They both worked nicely, with Sir Mond going the stronger at the finish. Sir Mond is fit. Speedfast. who looks improved, was not asked for his best to run four furlongs in 51 l-ss, and Taurua dashed over the same distance in 50 l-5s Taurua is in great heart. Pennyplain (Rennie) worked soundly over seven furlongs, running the last six in 1.20 4-5. Pennyplain is none the worse for his race on the first day and should run a good race at his next appearance. Leitrim (light boy) sprinted four furlongs brilliantly in 48s. Leitrim is fitter now than when he won at Te Awamutu recently and should perform well in his engagements at the meeting. Kawainga, with Glenhaupo to assist in the final stages, encompassed a round in 1.50 1-5. Kawainga will be a runner in the hurdle events on the later days of the meeting and. although she has not had any public experience as a hurdler, she is unlikely to be disgraced. Chromadyne (light boy) reeled off five furlongs nicely in 1.2 4-5. Chromadyne ran a good race after a slow beginning in tho Railway Handicap and !i<* may make a bold showing in the Summer Cup. Chief Cook (R. Reed) covered a mile in 1.47 1-5. the lust half being run in 525. Chief Cook did not exert himself unduly but he is in splendid trim and ready to run a sound race to-day.. Juniper and Dunraven completed useful work with three furlongs in 39 3-ss. These hacks both performed solidly on the first day and may win before the meeting is over, as they are seemingly doing well. Aga. Khan and Valmarie sprinted five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. Valmarie is carrying a more solid appearance than formerly and may have to be considered in the Waitemata Handicap to-day if for no other reason than that she has shown some, ability to run a middle distance fairly well. Cruachan, who looks well, worked steadily on the sand and then jumped a couple of hurdles carefully. The Cup winner. Admiral Drake, was out doing strong work. He has done well since Saturday and will saddle up well for his next race at the meeting.

Another to accomplish useful work was Lady Pam. who arrived from Palmerstqn North on Sunday. Lady Pam ran well in the Manawatu Cup at Awapuni on Saturday, when she was not entirely suited by tho way in which the race was won. She looks really well after her racing and travelling.
