CROQUET AT HOME.
FUNCTION AT HOWICK. Ideal weather conditions prevailed on Thursday when an enjoyable social afternoon was held on tho Howick croquet lawns. The following visitors from sister clubs were present:—Mesdames Hamilton (president Auckland Croquet Association), Cucksey, Dukes, Clarkson, Schubert, J. T. Gill, Craig, Clark, Somerville, Badeley, Harbutt, Coltman, Webber, Cutforth, Runciman, W. W. Massey, McGill, McKay, Gollan, C. W. Stephens, F. Stephens, Thompson, Butler, Misses Timms and Thompson. ' The members present were: — Miss F. M. Nixon (senior vice-president), Mesdames J. Roberts (vice-president), Johnson (lion, secretary), Gandy, Jones, Littcn, Wyatt, Boyes, F. E. Allen, F. Roberts, Alexander, Page, Bates, Hatcher, Grainger, J. Wilson, F. Crawford, May, Turner, J. Crawford, Misses Wann, Gill, Jay and Rathbone. In tho absence of tho president, Mrs. F. Jameson, Miss Nixon welcomed the guests and presented a charming bouquet to Mrs. Hamilton. Tho latter gavo a short address upon matters of special interest to croquet enthusiasts. Afternoon tea was served tho pavilion, which looked most attractive with bowls of shaded flowers and asparagus fern, decorating tho long tables. - Progressive croquet was played, tho winners being as follows:—Mesdames Hamilton, Gollan, Badeley, ■C. W. Stephens, W. W. Massey and McKay. After the presentation of prizes by Mrs. J. Roberts, Mrs. Hamilton, on behalf of tho visitors, conveyed to the members of the Howick Club, a hearty vote of thanks for a very happy afternoon.
