WANGANUI BEATS TARANAKI. MARGIN OF ELEVEN RUNS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, Sunday. The Wanganui cricket team defeated Taranaki by 11 runs in the Hawke Cup elimination match, which concluded yesterday. An exciting finish was provided. Wanganui made 266 runs in the first innings and 224 in tho second. Taranaki, with a first innings' score of 269, required 221 to win and had one wicket down When play was resumed yesterday morning. At luncheon, Taranaki had lost two wickets for 116, but the last wicket fell with the total at 210. Giddy batted all day, giving a fine performance for 70 not out. Other leading scores were:—Betts, 30; W. Barker, 49 (run out); Nasrojth, 2G.
PLAY AT WELLINGTON. JAMES IN SCORING MOOD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Sunday. The fourth series of senior cricket championship games was commenced yesterday :in ideal weather on fast wickets. In a :match between two unbeaten teams, Hutt and Kilbirnie, Hutt scored 253 (Lees 57, McGirr 56, Ross 55), to which Kilbirnie responded with 12 for two wickets. For Kilbirnie, "Griffiths secured seven wickets for 74 runs. Old Boys, with Dempster absent, scored 260 (Jame3 133 not out) against Wellington, 41 for ono wicket. Petone ran up 276 (Ritchie 60, Rotherham 49) against University. The latter, put on 63 for no wickets. Bowling for University, Harrison took six wickets for 135 runs and Baggo lour for 73. Institute made 238 (Lambert 57, Hankins 54) against Midland, 58 for three. For Midland, Baker took five wickets for 109 runs. CHRISTOHUROH RESULTS, ' I FOURTH ROUND COMPLETED. Lancaster Park, 370 agd 75 for two wickets, beat West Christchurch, 237 (Kerr 69). For the winners, Cromb took five wickets for 78 runs and Read four for 60. Old Boys, 233, beat East Christchurch, 133 (Brosnahan 76). Burrows look four wickets for 12 runs. Old Collegians, 302, beat Riccarton, 286 (J. L. Powell 70, Roberts 62, F. R. Powell 51). Bowling for Old Collegians, Lester took three wickets for 62, Talbot five for 67. St. Alban's, 329 (Crawford 51. .Tefcole 95, Norrie 78), beat Sydenham, 327. GAMES AT DUNEDIN. SEVERAL MODERATE SCORES. [BY TELEGRAriI. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Sunday. Cricket matches were played in dull but fine weather yesterday. Playing against Grange, High School Old Boys made 269 (Gale 105, Dickinson 58, Groves 33). Chettleburgh took Bix wickets for 71 runs. Grange has scored 18 without loss. Against University. Christian Brothers made 195 (Badcock 66). Gilkison took three wickets for 33 runs and Hanan two for 10. University has lost two wickets for 41 suns. Against Kaikorai, Albion made 271 (Shepherd 91, Vinnicombe 39, R. Silver 89). Kaikorai has lost three wickets for 24. Carisbrook made 208 against Dunedin (Blunt 55, J. Cameron 43_, D. Cameron 33). Cavanagh took four wicketii for 20.
