VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB. QUEENIE WINS CASEY CUP. RANGI'S BOONSTRA MEMORIAL. Three general handicaps for yachts aiul a race for motor-boats were held by the Victoria Cruising Club on Saturday afternoon. There was a fresh breeze from tho south-west and many of tho boats carried a single reef. All ovents started and finished off tho Western reclamation. The lceol yachts and classes H, L and N raced for the Casey Cup, classes V and S for tho Rao Cup, and classes T, S and Y for tho Boonstra Memorial Cup. Queenio won the Casey Cup, Swiftsuro tho Rae Cup and Ran si tho Boonstra Memorial Cup. More than usual interest was taken in the latter event on account of Rangi, Desert Gold and Joan having been nonnna ted for the Sanders Cup trials. The officials in charge of tho. racing were:— Starter, Mr. O. Johnson; judge. Mr. p. Griffiths; timekeepers, Messrs. A. Perkins and J. McGchan. Details aro as follows: — CASEY CUP CONTEST. The start of tho race for the Casey Cup was an excellent one. the majority of tho boats crossing the line within seconds of one another. Wairero was first away ana then came Omatere with tho rest close up except Queenio and Mowai, which were Into, the former lm 5s and the latter lm 40s. Omatere took the lead in tho run down tho harbour, but was passed by Queenio when the boats hauled on tho wind for tho beat back from Rangitoto Channel. Tho race started at 2.10 nm. In the race for the Rae Cut) Ranui was first away and was followed by Marianne, Sceptre, Avro, Swiftsuro and Clio. Marianne soon went into tho lead with Seeiitie in second position. Fay was first away and then came Opah, Sybila, Rangi, Joan. Demon, Meteor, Desert Gold and Sea Dawn, with the rest close up. On the clobo haul to tho Rona buoy Rangi and Joan drew away from the others and just as Joan rounded the buoy she capsized. On the run to the Shoal Bay mark Demon took tho lead, which was maintained to the finish. Six boats started, Maidie crossing tho line first, closely followed by Joan. Wairero soon took charge and led throughout. Belle and Opah lpado a close race for second position right round tho course. (scr), 3h 32m 18s; lolantho (4m), 3h 20m 335. Tio retired with a broken tiller and Drysdalo capsized.Tho result in corrected times was; —Delphine, 1; Trevic, 2; Oi, 3. OTAIIUIiU SAILING CLUB. Tho Otahuhu Sailing Club held its second race of the season on Saturday over three rounds of tho usual course. The raco started at 2.30 p.m. The finishing times were:— Surprise (scr), 4h 15in 50s; Aurora (2m), 4h 28m 30s; Spindrift (15m), 4h 32m 50s: Wayward (2m). 4h 32m 51b; Valrosa (10m), lh 34m 30s; Ben Machree (13m), -lh 38m 30s; Rahiri (17m), 4h 45m 40s. Tho result on corrected times was:—Surprise, 1; Spindrift, 2; Valrosa, • 3. MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB. A race for yachts was held by the Manukau Cruising Club on Saturday afternoon ovc-r No. 1 harbour course. Tho raco stalled at 3 p.m. Tho finishing times were: —Aoina (scr), 4h 40m 48s; Sea Ilorse (7m), 4h 42m 3ls; Sylvia (21m), 4h 43m ■l7s; Champagne (31m), 4h 51m 40s; Shirley (18m). 5h 2m 19s: Daphne (11m), 5h 5m 12b; Sea. SANDERS CUP BOATS. RACE HELD ON SATURDAY. EASY VICTORY FOR RANGI. The Jellicoo boats. Rangi, Desert Gold and Joan, which will compete in a series of trial racc3 to decide Auckland's representative in tho Sanders Cup contest at Wellington, wero competitors in tho Victoria Cruising Club's raco for 14ft boats on Saturday. Considerable interest wus taken in tho race, and. while it was not counted as a trial, tho selectors watched the boats closely. Rangi was first away, and it was a close haul to tho Rona buoy, which was rounded by Rangi three lengths ahead of Joan. Desert (; 0 1,1 followed about 50 seconds later. Joan capsized after rounding tho buoy and for the remainder of the course Rangi had matters all her own way. On completion of the first round Rangi had a lead of 2m 5Hs from Desert Gold. ltangi gradually drew away, crossing (he finishing line 4m 18s ahead of Desert Gold. Ransri was sailed by her owner. Mr. W. T. Matthews Deserl Gold by Mr. W. Clare inn., and Joan by Mr. W. J. l'ottcr. The first of the series of trials will commence on Saturday afternoon. FOURTH RACE AT DUNEDIN. WINIFRED BEATS SQUIB. [ll y TELEGRAPH. —I'UKSS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Sunday. The fourth Sanders Cup trial held on the Otago Harbour resulted in a decisive win for Winifred, sailed by I. Mc(". ralli. Squib was beaten into second place by over three and a-lialf minutes. The wind was light from the south-east. Tho other contestants Joan, Heather and Mavis, were never in tho race after the first round of the course. CORNWELL CUP CONTEST. TRIAL RACES DECIDED. The Takapuna Boating Club held a trial race on Saturday afternoon for Cornweil Cup crews Five boats started, the winning crow being Masters Field and Edwards in Mo Too, which finished 14s ahead of Kitty, handled by Johnston Brothers. The boats, crews and finishing times were: —Tito Too, F : eld and Edwards. 4h 31m 10s; Kitty, Johnston Brothers, 4h 31m 21s; Trevic, R. Tabateau and J. White, 4h 33m 31s; Oi, Pelhain and Balbooth, 4h 35m 3s; Tio, Carter and Bryant, 4h 37m 30s. The Mnuukau Yacht and Motor-boat Club also hold a trial race on the Waitemata for Cornweil Cup crows. Five boats faced the starter, tho winning crew being Masters Donovan and Tucker in Kitty. Me Too capsized when in the lead.
