AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. FIFTH SERIES - OF MATCHES. GOOD BATTING PERFORMANCES. The fifth series of matches in the senior championship of tho Auckland Cricket Association Was commenced on Saturday under excellent playing conditions. The ■wickets werb 'in favour of high scoring iind generally the batting standard showed improvement. The highest scoro of tlie afternoon was Compiled by Y.M.C.A. with a total of 322 for nine wickets against University. Ponsonby, 196, appears to bo on even terms with Grafton, which lost two wickets for 24 runs. .King's Old Boys occupied the batting crease all the afternoon against Eden, and surprised most followers by compiling tho good store of 281. At North Shore Parnell totalled 254, against the local team, which replied with nine for one wicket. The best batting performances were as follows:—P. E. Whitclaw, Parnell, 68; L. E. The Y.M.C.A. batsmen played havoc with * University's attack in the match at Eden Park on Saturday, the splendid total of 322 runs being compiled for nine wickets. L. E Elliott led the way with an aggressive 67 while M. Clark (62), Sutherland (51 not out),' D. Webb (48), und R. E. Frater (41) also batted well. GOOD SCORE BY KING'S. BATSMEN SHOW FORM. Batting first against Eden at Eden Park on Saturday, King' 3 Old Boys compiled the pood total of 281 riins. McMillan (54) and Pearson (52) played fine innings, and scored freely all around the wicket. Johnson contributed a -useful 45. while Simpson also hit with effect to compile 39. The bowling seldom troubled the batsmen, aqd, helped considerably by a perfect wicket. King s Old Boys made runs at a steady pace throughout the innings. G. L.
