BAKERS AND PASTRYCOOKS.
NEW AWARD SOUGHT. CONTENTIONS BY EMPLOYERS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The hearing of a Dominion dispute between the Bakers and Pastrycooks Union and master bakers was commenced in the Arbitration Court to-day. I lie workers are asking for pew conditions as to hours, time of starting aud increased wages. One of the chief points in dispute is the time of starting. The master bakers want to start work at the time which best suits the particular business and tho workers definitely ask for the time to be fixed at 4 a.m. The employers claim that the bulk of their output goes to shops for retail over tho counter trade and deliveries must be early. Home-mc.de bakeries are objecting to being brought under the same award as that covering big machine bakeries. Tho master bakers argue that the price of bread is being kept up by award provisions and the full effect of improvement of plant, machinery ap.d methods by employers could not bo the public thereby suffering in the price of bread. The hearing was not concluded.
