IF WE REJECT THE BUSTLE.

WOMEN'S REASONS AGAINST IT. would rather die. I would rather die than wear them. They look ludicrous. If it costs me my last penny, I'll have that frilly blue taffeta with the bustle bow. That is how women felt about the new Victorian dresses shown at a soiree in Paris recently, states an overseas journal. The first speaker was a wealthy woman of leisure. Tho second was a hardheaded modern girl who has little timo to indulge in hampering " fancy-dress " clothes. So the Victorian v. Modern war is not to bo fought in the cause of Feminine Liberty, but in the far more vital cause of taste. Actually these Victorian evening gowns did not appear to be more difficult to wear than the streamline frocks of last season. Buttons of all kinds—steel, jet, crystal and enamel, as well as diamante —fastened the high corsages of evening gowns,

afternoon dresses and sports jackets. Rows of buttons on all coats obviated the slouch-walk that is the consequence oi holding buttonless coat-fronts together. For day wear the new long, doublebreasted guardsmen's coats and short jackets with throttle collars to the chin appeared again and again in shades of nigger brown, dull red and bottle green.
