BABY'S NARROW ESCAPE.
CHIMNEY FALLS ON BED. Betty Manning, the baby daughter of a gardener at Pett, Sussex, narrowly escaped death when her home was struck by lightning lately. Frightened by the storm, she went into her father's bedroom and two minutes later the roof of her room crashed in, burying the bed she had just left beneath a pile of bricks. The chimney was split in two and parts were flung 50ft. across the road. The lock of n cupboard was hurst open and the kitchen rahge smashed to pieces.
