FIRE PREVENTION.
"DRIVE" BY -GOVERNMENT
DEVONPORT HELP SOUGHT.
A request for the co-operati<»n of the Devonport Borough Council in a fire prevention "drive," proposed to bo held in the week coiritnencing November 23, was sought in a letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs received by the council last evening. The letter was accompanied by forms to bo filled in and forwarded to the inspector of fire brigades, Mr. R/ Girling-Butchor, in cases whero there are circumstances pointing to incendiarism. The letter was referred to tho brigade superintendent. / " This borough is perhaps as free from fires as any other district in tho Dominion," said the Mayor, Mr. 11. F. W. Meikle, when the request was considered.
The letter stated that editorial comment was showing an appreciation of the seriousness of tho question of fire loss iu the Dominion. During Fire Protection Weekit was proposed to arrange for broadcast talks on the subject.
