POSITION AT NEWMARKET.

Satisfaction with the result of the Newmarket Borough Council's departure in policy in allowing a discount for the prompt payment of rates this year was expressed by the town clerk, Mr. IL Wilson, at last evening's meeting. Mr. Wilson said the total amount due was £20,423, and last month, on tho last day of which tho discount period expired, £8768 was collected, representing 44 per cent, . of tile total.
