90TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED.
Mr. R. A. Loughnan, a veteran WeH-i ington journalist, celebrated his 90th birthday on Tuesday, Early in life ht entered journalism, and he. was leader writer during llie Great War for the NewZealand Times, which was absorbed by the Dominion in 1927. Two years ago he compiled a volume on the political career of the. late Sir .Joseph Ward. Mr. Loughnan received many congratulations at the luncheon of the Wellington Rotary Club. The president, Mr. H. G. Teagle, said that Air. Loughnan was a charter member and had always been an active member, and the directors had asked him to present him with a.gold button. ' -
The veteran journalist, who was united with musical honours and replied. A birthday cake with 90 candles on,it was carried in, and after Mr. Loughnan had cut it, pieces were handed round to the Rotarians.
