! ROAD RACES IN AUCKLAND. Under ideal conditions on Saturday Die Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club held a ICJ-ruiJes race, 20 riders competing:. The scratch pair, 11. M. McElroy and JI. 0. Browne, cave away starts up to 8 minutes. The event was so keenly contested that some of the riders completed an extra lap of tho loop before returning to the finishins point. Tho committee met the position by awarding the placings to tho leaders of each group. The result in tho first group, which rodo It; 1 , miles, was:—B. Scott (4m 30s), 1; C. May (Gin), 2; H. AVebb (sm), 3. .The second group rode 18} miles, and finished n3 follows:—W. Bobbins, 4m 455, 1; IT. iEiiderby, sm, 2; li. M. McElroy, scr, 3; Fastest time was returned by 11. M. McEhoy, scr, in 5Gm 50s. IMA NUK A U CLUB'S EVENTS. The Manukau Amateur Cycling Club held junior and senior road races over a triangular course of 2\ miles to the lap at Avondale South. In the junior event, of 5 miles, two laps, 18 competed. H. V. Gordon rodo alone from scratch and conceded starts up to dm. A. Da vies was the limit rider otl <Jm. The successful juniors were:—P. 11. Bit-knell (2m 30s). 15m lis. 1; ,T. E. Sparrow (2m 30s), 15ni 15s. 2; 11. Campbell (2m 30s), 15m 17s, 3; S. Pinfold (1m), 14m. 4. Fastest and record time was returned by A. W. D. Kobinson, off 30s. in 13m 31s. Tho 15 miles, eix laps, senior race drew an entry of 19. It. B. Harper rodo off the limit mark of Cm, while the scratch mark was shared by Casey, Spragg and Baird. Before tho halfway mark had been reached tiie 5 minutes trio had taken the len_d, nud for the remaining 7i miles maintained a big break, to fight out the placinss among themselves, half a mile ahead of the fourth finisher. Hansen sprinted strongly to win by over 20yds. Tho result was:—C. Hansen (sm), 44m 555, 1; K. N. Clark (sm), 44m 5Gs, 2: W. Borland (sm). 44m 575, 3; G. .T. Whitehouse (3m), 44in 4s, 4. F. .T. Casey, scr, registered fastest time in 43m 4s. AUCKLAND CLUB. Sixteen riders started in tho Auckland Cycle Cl.ub's 18} miles raco on Saturday. J. H. AVado and S. Hayes shared the scratch mark. ,T. Ilaigh, 9m 30s, was the limit man. Haigh rode a splendid unpaced race, to hold the lead throughout, nnd win by 48 seconds. Mathieson and Litchfield were separated only by a length in an exciting finish for second plnce. The result was:—J. A. Ilaigh, 9m 30s, I: K. J. Mathieson, 2m 15s, 2; S. Litchfield, .2m 15s, 3; M. Hibburt, 7m, 4. J, H. Wade, scr, was successful in gaining fastest time in 62m 225.
