STOCK EXCHANGES.

SATURDAY'S SALES. RETURN ON INVESTMENTS. Following is a list of Saturday's transactions on New Zealand Stock Exchanges. In the second column is given the return, based on the last annual dividend, from investment at the quoted price. In the case of Government and other redeemable securities the return includes redemption. In calculating the returns on shares in companies which pay their dividends outside New Zealand exchange rates, being liable to fluctuations, have not been taken into consideration. The first column gives the figures at which the sales were made: — AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. Return on Sale Price. Investment. £ e. d. £ s. d. Govt,. LITTLE RUSSIAN SOLD. (Received August 9, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 8. One result of the German financial crisis has been to weaken the butter market. The inability of the Germans to buy butter caused large quantities from Denmark and the Baltic States to be diverted to London, with the result that although consumption remains good, the stocks in cold store were increased largely. According to the Empire Marketing Board, the cold store stocks at July 25 amounted to 923,856 boxes, compared with 797,600 a fortnight earlier. It is significant to note that prices for Continental descriptions weakened much more than for Australian and New Zealand, and to-day's quotations for Danish are only 2s above those tor New Zealand. The newspapers have been giving prominence to the large arrivals of Siberian butter lately, but only small quantities of it are being sold, as traders are boycotting it. It is doubtful whether 10 per cent, of the arrivals have been sold, although it is 12s cheaper than Australian butter. It is estimated that there are now about 150,000cwt. of Russian butter in cold store in London. LONDON DAIRY VALUES. PRODUCE BOARD'S REPORT. Catalogues were smaller at the rabbitskin sale at Dunedin last week, no doubt owinjr to tlie heavy snow which had fallen during tiie last week or two in Otago and Southland. In spite of the wintry conditions experienced so generally, a bisr proportion of the skins coming to hand are now spotted and outgoing, . and fairly large lots of springs are offered in all catalogues. The last London sales were very disappointing to shippers, low grades being almost unsaleable and furriers 10 per cent, lower. At the Dxmedin sale the demand was better than expected for inferior sorts, which sold at little change from previous rates. Winter bucks showed a substantial drop on seconds, and spotted sorts of about 6d a lb, and does were generally lower on all grades by td to Bd. Owing to the unsettled conditions on the Continent, particularly Germany, there has been very little inquiry this season for does, for which prices, especially for spotted and outgoing sorts, are low. There is little chance of improvement in prices this season for 'any skins, and trappers are not advised to hold their skins. The next sale will be on August lfi. The following is«the range of prices >- Runners, to 4Jd; summers, 4Jd; milky, 4d: springs, 9d; summer broken, 33d; third winter broken.
