GENERAL ELECTION.
THE EDEN CONTEST. REFORM PARTY NOMINEE. MR. GLOVER-CLARK SELECTED. Tho official Reform candidate for the Eden seat at the general election will be Mr. R. Glover-Clark, who was chosen by ballot from threo aspirants on Saturdav evening. Mr. Glover-Clark s name will be forwarded to the Leader of the Reform Party, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, for endorsement. At present Eden is represented by the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy. The other aspirants whoso names went to the ballot were Mr. E. H. Potter and Mr. V. Potter. Sixty-four delegates, representative of all sections of tho electorate, attended, and the constitutional procedure for selecting tho candidate was explained by the convener, Mr. A. Lyon Griffiths. Mr. R. Aickin was then elected to tho chair. The three nominees each addressed the meeting. After the ballot had been taken Mr. Glover-Clark was congratulated by his opponents. It was "reported that the organisation of the constituency was well in hand, and that many new members of the party had been enrolled in the past few weeks. Mr. Glover-Clark, who served throughout the war and was wounded twice, was engaged in farming at Piako for a short time after tho war. In more recent years ho was engaged in commercial work in the course of which he travelled extensively over the whole of the Auckland Province. As an executive member of the New Zealand Land Settlement and Development League, Mr. Glover-Clark accompanied Mr. W. J. Holdsworth on a tour of the Dominion two years ago, lecturing on the subject of land development, a question in which he is keenly interested. POSITION IN GREY LYNN. MORE THAN ONE NOMINEE. An invitation was extended to Dr. Buckley Turkington, at a meeting of the executive of the Grey Lynn Reform League on Saturday, to permit herself to be nominated as a Reform Party candidate for the Grey Lynn seat. _ After an interesting address on the - political situation, Dr. Turkington said the invitation would require her further consideration.. The meeting was presided over by Mr. F. G. Rose. It was announced that as there was more than one nomination a conference of delegates would be summoned, and a selection ballot held. MR. J. S. FLETCHER'S WORK. EXPRESSION OF CONFIDENCE. An enthusiastic meeting of friends and supporters was addressed by Mr. .T. S. Fletcher, M.P., at the Grey Lynn Library Hall on Saturday evening. Mr. A. J. Senton, who presided, paid a warm tribute to Mr. Fletcher's work for the electorate during tho past three years. In giving a brief account of his stewardship, Mr. Fletcher dealt particularly .with the unemployment problem, and said if the electors would only send the right men to Parliament the depression would soon be a thing of the past. A vote of renewed confidence in Mr. Fletcher was carried unanimously. Committees were formed to further the general election candidature of Mr. Fletcher in all sections of the electorate.
