NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS

MINOR COUNTIES MATCH.

HOME SIDE OUT FOR 191.

VISITORS AT THE WICKETS.

MILLS-MERRITT STAND

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Special to N.Z. Press. Association.) (Received June ]!), 1,15 a.m.) LONDON. June 18. The match between the New Zealand cricketers and the Minor Counties at Gainsborough, in which tho home side yesterday made 169 runs for seven wickets, was resumed this morning. The home side's first innings closed for 191 and New Zealand has lost two wickets for 62. Tho teams arc as follows: New Zealand. Minor Counties. Lowry. Elderton. Page. (look. Allcott. Remnant. Mills. Kingsley. Dempster. Fordham.' Merritt. Homer. Talbot, Ilafferty. Blunt. • Frearson. Kerr. Ward. Weir. Walters. James. Lock.

The sodden state of the ground prevented an early start yesterday. The weather, however, cleared after luncheon and play was begun at three o'clock. Lowry lost the toss, and Homer and Cook started well. and put on 85 runs. They were separated after tea, when Cook was smartly stumped. Merritt then took three wickets fairly rapidly. He bowled Kingsley, last year's Oxford University captain, with a well pitched googly. Fordham and Frearson resisted the New Zealand attack, but Lowry proved to bo an effective change bowler and took three wickets cheaply, those of Frearson and Walters with successive balls. Tho wicket played easily and the ball turned but slowly. Merritt bowled well. Allcott deserved more success than fell to his share. When play was resumed this morning the weather was fine and the wicket easy. The Minor Counties were dismissed for 191, Allcott and Lowry taking the last three wickets cheaply. The New Zealanders opened their first innings badly, Dempster and Weir both being caught in the slips. Then Mills and Merritt became associated in a freescoring partnership.
