DWELLING AT MANGERE.

OCCUPIER ABSENT AT TIME

A six-roomed house at Ihumatao Read, Mangerc, was burned to the ground at 1.30 yesterday morning. The occupier, Mr. 11. Cutts, was absent at the time. The building was owned by Mr. I. B. Stewart, of Stewart Avenue, Mount Albert. The contents were insured for £250 in the New Zealand Insurance Company.

HURRIED ESCAPE OF FAMILY

Fanned by a strong wind, fire completely destroyed a five-roomed house at Edward Street, St. Heliers, at 1.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The occupant, Mr. G. Knaggs, and his family made a hurried escape. When the Tamaki Fire Brigade arrived, it was faced with a hopeless task. The house, which was owned by Miss Fielder, of Mount Eden, was insured for £BOO with the South British Insurance Company. The furniture was covered for £250 in the State Fire and Accident Insurance Office.

A fire broke out in the upper storey of a boarding house in Jesmond Street this afternoon. The fire brigade was promptly on the scene and soon extinguished the flames. Considerable damage was done by water, but the fire was confined to two rooms. The occupier of the boarding house is Mrs. Abrams.

A fire broke out shortly after two o'clock yesterday morning in Mr. ,T. Dufty's sixroomed house at Parawai. The house was burning fiercely when the brigade arrived, and the gal* which was blowing greatly hampered the efforts of the firemen. The interior of the house was gutted. The occupants were Mr. C. Dufty and his sisters, who escaped fn their night attire only. The owner and his wife were absent at Tuakau at the time. The brigade did good work in saving the adjoining two-storey house, owned by Mr. Corbett.
