ELLERSLIE NOTES.

YESTERDAY'S TRAINING.

A GOOD HALF-MILE SPRINT

TETRARCHATE, FULL MEASURE.

There has been comparatively little fast work on the tracks at Elleridie since the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting and only for the fuet that a number of horses aro being kept going to compete at the Taumarunui Itacing Clubs meeting lioxt moptl) matters would be very quiet. Yesterday the No. grass was available for galloping but it was not used extensively, although a number of horses were allotted working gallops.

Tho .hurdler Patutahi encompassed a round in 1.53 4-5, running the last six furlongs in 1.29 3-5. Patutahi has not don.: as well as oxpected in his races over hurdles, but once lie gains more confidence ho is likely to do a good deal belter. Tetrarchato and Full Measure ran their first furlong in 12 4-5s and completed half a milo in 51 4-ss. This was a smart effort on the heavy track and they both worked well. Tel rarebate was never better than at present and should race well in the sprint events at the iauniarunui meeting. Full Measure is also on the improve and may win at any time now. Gay Cockade was going well within himsolf while running six furlongs in 1.24 2-5. Guy Cockade will only require to reproduce his Cornwall Handicap run to be very troublesome in the handicap events at next month's meeting. He seems to bo training on well and there should bo nothing amiss with his condition when lie has to undertake his coming engagements. Sub-Editor and Kamehamcha covered a round in 1.19 1-5, the last six furlong, being run in 1.'24 2-5. bub-Kditor is carrying a bright and muscular appearance and it should not be for lack of condiUon if he fails to perform well next month. Waraloon, tho two-year-old filly by Musketoon from Araluen, sprinted four furlongs in 53 3-ss. This filly was very bnckward when first plnced in work, but she has improved greatly in appearance lately and is now beginning to show sonio proni puriri Park and Hampton Park sprinted five furlong 9 nicely in I.G 4-5. I hey were accompanied in tho final stages by Groat j Emblem, who jumped of! too soon when supposed to pick them up at tho half-muo.

TAKANINI TRACK NEWS.

DOMINICAN'S PROGRESS.

RISING TWO-YEAR-OLDS

The recent rains have mado the tracks heavy, but the outside grass was in uso at Tokanini yesterday.

Dominican aud Vuli were anions tIIOSC to set through solid work. Dominican looks bright tuid well. He is to be schooled at Elleislie on Saturday, as ho has eugagements at the Taumarunui meeting.

C. Morse gave Arch Kuler and Captain Dollar solid work. They ran five furlongs in 1.12, tho puco being on only over the last furlong. Catch-'em was another to bo kept up to the collar. He concluded his work with three furlongs in -tl 3*ss, aud handled the ground in fino style. Tne C'anusa —Marriage* Bell gelding and Lady Vane sprinted up the straight, Lady Vane continuing oil for three furlongs without being timed. Tho C'anusa gelding puts a lot of dash into his work. lie is developing into a very sturdy youngster and thrives 011 work. J, T. Jomieson allowed somo 01 lus youngsters to run along up tho straight. I-'our who hit out freely were Prolyxo, Homo Brew, tho Diacquenod—Minsk colt and tho Caravel—Vanga colt. 1 lie lastnamed, who was nn expensive purchase at the Trentham sales, is a very handsome colt and iB expected to turn out a good one. Jamieson's active team -has been reduced by the spelling of liefresher and Laglet, who will have a run ill tho paddock tor a few weeks. , Dominican aud laiirua. aro likely to repre : sent Jamieson's stable at the .Taumarunui meeting, but the Taknnim trainer will have no representatives at Trentham. During recent weeks < the jockeys JJ. Gilmer and K. Home have taken mi p their quarters at Takauini. E. Ludlow is now a daily visitor to the tracks, where his services aro freely used for riding work. Cool mint and Valinarie did not return to Taknnini after their racing at 1 e Ijapa. They were left there 111 charge of JI. J. Carroll, who trains Prince of Orange for the same owner, Mr. R. -T. Hold.

POSITIONS AT THE POST.

DRAW ON ACCEPTANCE DAY.

REMIT TO THE CONFERENCE

[FROM OI *.l OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

WELLINGTON. Wednesday

Tlic 'Wellington Racing Club has a remit to come before the annual meeting of racing club delegates next month to provide for a draw for positions at the post on acceptance night. While tliero is something to be said in favour of this proposal, it would appear to have little chance of being passed. Its opponents will be on solid ground in pointing out that the positions at the post couccrn only those actually on the course and that the suggested provision is mainly for the benetit of those who will not attend the meeting. Further', it may work against the best interests of the clubs themselves. Take, for instance, the Wellington Club. It is well known that an inside position in a race like the Thompson Handicap is a considerable advantage to a runner. this important handicap, to name only one, generally draws a field of '2O or more. An owner or trainer from Auckland or Dunedin might think twice before lie brought, his horse to the meeting ta start from the outer. Until the actual draw_ on the course he can always hope for No. 1

NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE

TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP.

Mr T H Lowry has given the name of Court S'ard to the rising two-year-old half-brother to Gascony and Second Wind. He is a chestnut gelding by Grandcourt from First Blow.

The three-year old filly Bakitcro who is n. half-sister to Toxeunia, was sold by,- ' F. Orinond after the Auckland Winter Meoting and is now a member of £>. Ellis' team at Washdyke.

The four races exacted from Catoma at the Auckland Kacincc Cl'ib's Winter Meeting did not nli'ect him in Ihe slightest: in fact tie whs a better horse at the end of the meetinc than before it. In the meantime Catoina has not been net any exaotinc ttsks. but lie is thriving on the useful work he is being allotted and will bo in great heart when required to race ogam. I,iko other members of his family. Catoina will probably always be best, suited by winter conditions and now that he 18 just comii'" to his true form he should bo a profitable horse in the next few months.

Without being asked any serious quest ions In leiy Billy Boy has been getting through liia work in good stylo and lie should bo [i better horso at llie Tnunuirmiui meeting than wlien bo notched a win and a second •in 1110 Hunt Club events nl Ihc Auckland Winter Meeting. Billy Boy is a reliable jumper, possessed of a fair amount of speed iilld stamina, and lm should win his way into better company before tlic senson is over Ho will again be a eompetllor ill (lie hunters' class at next month's meeting mid nt this stage bis prospects of further suetens uppear very rosy.

The. rn<•i ii if lie hnrl ot tlie Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting wrought improvement in Town Beauty a conditio., and lie should be iu capital trim when he is called unoil to race at the Tauniiirunui meeting Town Beauty's necond to Hilly Boy ill the Hunt Club Cup wan a very promising effort and lie can be confidently expected to reveal better form as the jumping season progresses. Only «• s'oting horse. Town Beauty has a good way to go before reaching his best and next winter be may be capablo of taking Ins place in events ol more importance than hunters races.

Although there wag not much merit, in General Lu's third 111 the T ln lit Club Hurdles at the Auckland Racing Clubs Winter Meeting, the performance was easily the best ho has registered and eigni fied "that he is at last on the improve. Hitherto his form oil the tracks and in public was not very encouraging, but now that he lias shown pigns of being on.tie improve there is a chance that ho might make sufficient progress to be a possibility for a hunter's event.beforo the close of.tlio iuniping season. General Bus condition is better than at any time previous y and one. thing that is in his favour is that ho i 3 a fairly reljablo jumper.
