HOMES AND ORPHANAGES.

The ladies' committee of the Methodist Homes and Orphanages held its annual gift afternoon in aid of the clothing fund in the Pitt Street schoolroom. The president of Ihe committee, Mrs. A. Peak, welcomed new members and friends and introduced the Rev. E. D. Patchett, president of conference, who then presided. Tho speakers were Miss Johnston. matron of Wesley Home, and Mr. A. Peak. Mrs. 11. T. King sang several Maori songs and the Rev. S. Griffith stressed the need of more funds to carry on (lie work of maintenance. One hundred and ten mouths to feed and bodies lo clothe was a somewhat formidable task, but Ihe committee felt it was "winning through." A collection of £37 in money and a long table full of new and second-hand clothes was the result of the effort. A flower stall was well patronised. Afternoon tea concluded a sociable and successful gathering.
