POLITICIANS CRITICISED.
" NOTHING BUT PROMISES." AUSTRALIAN BISHOP'S VIEWS. When opening the new Roman Catholic Church at Walbundrie, New South Wales, recently, Bishop Dwyer, of Wagga, sai<l that many people were suffering from the general depression, which was brought about mainly by politicians who did nothing but make promises. They promised things they know very well they could not give, said Dr. Dwyer. It was all for vote-catching. If there was an honest politician among them lie was a lonely man. It was a miserable tiling for the country to have to put up with men who would do nothing to right the country's wrongs. "You are living in an age when people tell you not to pay for things you promised to pay for. That is not the teach, ing of the Roman Catholic Church," the bishop added. "We want to get back to the ways of our forefathers, who, when building up this country, had beautiful homes where everybody had something to do. ' "The young women were not dolls in those days. They did not waste their time dolling themselves up.and spending most of the day painting themselves, as they do now, for the ball at night. 1 hey were taught to pray in the morning for their daily bread, to work for it and make it. The people of Australia will always be discontented if their sole aim in life is material prosperity, and disregard of the spiritual side of life."
