YOUTH AND THE BIBLE.

ASTONISHING IGNORANCE. NEVER HEARD OF MOSES. Moses and the bulrushes, and Pharaoh and his Egyptians, mean nothing in the young life of one Greymouth youth—ho has never even heard of them. This revelation was made to the members of the Greymouth Technical School Board by the chairman, Mr. T. K. Coates, at the last meeting. Included in the correspondence was a letter to the Rev. 11. R. Fell, sent after the previous meeting of the board, stating that every facility would be given for the continuance of the religious instruction of standard VI. pupils at the Main School, if tiiey were transferred to the Technical School. Mr. J. Goodall: I suppose pupils can plc-ase themselves whether they stop to listen to it? The Principal, Mr. J. Hulfon: That is so. It is the Nelson system, which, legally speaking, means that it is out of school hours. The chairman said (hat the ignorance regarding the Bible on the part of modern youth was appalling. One boy who worked for him was 16 years of age, very smart and nice. Desiring to test the boy's knowledge, lie asked him one day who Pharaoh was. but the boy did not know. Asked if he had ever heard of Moses, the boy again said he had not. Mr. Goodall: lie will be just as welJ off. The Chairman: That is a matter of opinion.
