CROQUET AFTERNOON.

FUNCTION AT HOWICK.

A very pleasant afternoon was spent on the Howick croquet "lawns on Wednesday when the following members of the executive of the Auckland Croquet Association —Mesdames Oswald (president), Badeley, Finch, Keesing (hon. secretary), White, McGregor, Cutforth, Thompson, Morton and Miss Brown were tho guests of the club. Progressive croquet was played, the winners being as follows:—A grade, Mrs. Badeley; B grade, Mrs. Thompson; hidden numbers, Mrs. Keesing and Miss Brown. > Afternoon tea was served in the pavilion, the tables having been decorated in the club's colours. Mrs. Jameson (president) welcomed the visitors, following which Mrs. H. B. Johnson, one of the clubs delegates, addressed the gathering. Eulogistic reference was made to the work of the executive and a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation'was conveyed to them on behalf of the members of the club. Mrs. Oswald and Mrs. Keesing were the recipients of charming bouquets which were presefited by Mrs. Amiss (vice-president). Mrs. Oswald expressed her great interest in all the affiliated clubs and thanked the members of the Howick Club for their hospitality.
