VICTORIA LEAGUE.

ANNUAL MEETING.

A PROGRESSIVE RECORD. A year of expansion of work and of sustained enthusiasm was disclosed at the annual meeting of the Victoria League, held in the Lyceum Club last evening. There was a very large attendance of members and the meeting wa3 presided over by Mr. J. Alexander. Correspondence was read, including a letter of sympathy in the Hawke's Bay earthquake calamity from the secretary of the Victoria League and Bush Club of Victoria, and a letter from Lady BadenPowell expressing appreciation of the greeting which she had received from the League on her arrival in Auckland. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. Tho chairman, Mr. Alexander, congratulated the League on the fact that it had attained its 21st birthday, and also upon the splendid work which the report disclosed. The following vice-presidents were elected:—Sir James Coates, Sir Walter Stringer, Hon. G. J. Garland, Messrs. E. Anderson, Preston Chambers, P. Luckie, H. Fenton, 0. Nicholson, Carr-Rollett, Dr. Strido, Lady Sinclair Lockhart, Mesdames Carr-Rollett, Coleman, Devore, J. Reid, Misses Morrison and K. Keesing; members of tho council, Messrs. W. Crowthcr, C. C. Chalmers, N. A. Duthie, H. Goldie, F. S. Townley, Littlo, Mesdames R. A. Bodle, Chinnery Brown, CarrSmith, Preston Chambers, Elliott Davis, C. Heather, Keeble, C. Kissling, Leatham, J. B. MacFarlane, J. M. McLachlan, H. H. Partridge, L. S. Rickerby, S. Stride, H. W. Wilson, Dr. de Courcy, Misses Chapman, Fenton, Gerrard, M. Earl, E. Kent, E. Keesing, 0. Murray, A. H. Slater; honorary auditor, Mr. N. A. Duthie; honorary solicitor, Mr. H. P. Richmond. A programme of entertainment, arranged by Miss Kent, was given. Miss Lois Walls played a violin solo, "Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes," Miss Helena Venables playing her accompaniment; 'Mr. Zante Wood recited "The Liverwing Presentation" (humorous); Miss Molly Atkinson sang " A Birthday," her accompanist being Miss Phyllis Graham, and a sketch, "Good-night, Babetto" (by Austin Dobsin), was performed by Miss Una Moore and Mr. Norton Hammond. At the close of the programme supper was served.
