BOXING TOURNAMENT.
UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS.
BOUTS OF GOOD STANDARD. The Auckland University College boxing championships were decided in the college hall last evening. Tho bouts, which were of a good standard, attracted a fair attendee light-heavy-weight, W. L._ Barker, showed a good style, combined with forceful hitting and he was unlucky in not gaining two titles. Tho bantam-weights, B. E. Grey and H. Sharley, gave the best display of the evening in a fast bout, which went an extra round. . . Harry Johns, light-weight professional champion of New Zealand, gave a demonstration of skipping and shadow sparring, followed by two rounds with a clever local novice, V. Bnkalich. Mr. F. Burns was referee. _ The 1931 university champions are:— Bantam-weight, H. Sharley: feather-weight, J. RassitJ; light-weight, T. Emanuel: welterweight, G. L. Zinzan; middle-weight. Or. J. Skeats; light-heavy-weight, W. L. Barker: heavy-weight, G. Frear. Results are as follows: Bantam-weights.—B. E. Grey, Bst 61b, beat L. J. Whelan, Sst 10lb, after showing some pretty boxing. Pinal: H. Sharley, Bst 841b. beat Grey in a, fast and bright bout. Feather-weights.—Final: J. Rnssie, 9st 2lb, wins from B. E. Grey by default. Rasflie boxed a round with H. Sharley. Light-wfiighte.-.-T. Ramsay, lOst. drew with T. Emanuel. 9st 13lb. in a bright bout; W M. Brown, 9st filb. beat L. Sealy, lOst. The title went, to Emanuel for Brown, owing to an injury to the hand, defaulted, and Rnmsay retired. • Welter-weights.—M. Senly. lOst, knocked, out C. Clark, lOst 101b, just on timo after an interesting bout: G. L. Zinzan, lOst 31b, heat E. B. Paterson, lOst: D. ol 'ey, lOst 101b. beat C. A. G. M Lima, lOst 81b. tho referee stopping the. bout in the■ «eco d round. Semi-final: Zinzan beat Colley, the referee intervening in tho final round. Final: Zinzan beat Sealy Middle-weights.—G.
