FORM AT WELLINGTON.

RUNNING OF LIMERICK.

TWO ENCOURAGING EFFORTS.

SIMBA'S IMPROVED DISPLAYS.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COIIHESPON'D'ENT.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday.

One of the features of tho sprint eventß nl Trentham was the form of Limerick. Eight away back in the early stages, ho travelled very fast over the Inst two furlongs, and each day finished fifth, right up with the fourth horse. If Limerick trains on he will make matters interesting for his opponent' over a longer journey. His connections received every encouragement to take him on to the Manawatu meeting. Cadland was easily best sprinter at tho Wellington meeting and his improved form this autumn is outstanding. As ho has won an open mile race and has proved exceedingly solid at the finish of all his races, ho ehould bo capablo of winning a big distance handicap. The South Islanders did not have their usual good innings at the Wellington meeting this time. On tho first day they did not get ft horse into the money. They did better on Tuesday. Shatter, Nightmarch, True Shaft and Kozan won raced, while place money went to Rin Tin Tin, Cricket Bat and Winsome Hind. R. Reed's Gold Oup Winners, Nightmarch made R. Reed s fourth winning rido in tho Trenthnm Gold Clip.' The others were Rapine (twice) and Star Stranger the Crßt time tho latter won. Simba's form at the Wellington meeting was solid and consistent. There does not appear any doubt now that he has come good and solid. Ho was unlucky on luesday or he would have won a. double, and, his form nuggeats that ho will run out a distance event any time he is tried. The two-year-olds at the Wellington meeting wero, unable to ehow just how good is Bronze Eagle. He made hacks of thorn each day. yet they included good winners and well-performed youngsters. There is not any doubt that Bronzo Eagle is something right out of tho ordinary, probably the best two-year-old since the days of Rational, Mermin, The Hawk, Tamatete and others of that great vintago year.

Progeny of Equipment. The Martian mare Equipment has been one of the gems of the Stonyhuret Stud. Included among her foala aro Rivalry, by Antagonist, Centrepiece, by Tho Ace. Full Feather, by Autumnus, Ball Dress, by Winning Hit, and now the two-year-old colt Cricket Bat, brother to Ball Dress, is showing form. His second to Bronze Eagle was gained by an excellent display of stamina, and if he had not had his season interrupted by the fall at Trentham in January he might even have been capablo of giving tho brilliant winner a lot of trouble. Cricket Bat. if all goes well with him, should be a good Derby prospect. Cylinder's brother Cyprus had his first race when ho ran in the Pacific Handicap on Tuesday. lie was always well back and never prominent in tho running. He is a good-looking gelding with a bold stylo of galloping, and no doubt will bo heard from as a three-year-old. Eaglet's sister Columba showed plenty of speed in tho Pacific Handicap, being up in the front for the first half and eventually finishing fourth. Columba shotild not be long in winning another race.

TARANAKI TROTTING CLUB.

ENTRIES NEXT THURSDAY. Entries for the Taranaki Trotting Club's annual meeting, to bo held on the New Plymouth racecourse on Thursday and Saturday, April 9 and 11, close at 9.30 P.m. next Thursday with the secretary. Mr. D. Lo C. Morgan, New Plymouth. It was originally arranged that entries should close on March 31 but the granting of the additional permit has necessitated an alteration.

NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE

TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP. Karapoti has returned to To Awamutu an 1 will not race at Awapuni. A. Cook was not anxiouß to run him in the Trentham Gold Cup. as ho considered he had not hod the racing or work sufficient for a hard contest over two miles.

Two former Auckland horses were successful in Sydney on Saturday, according to tho Ulimaroa's Ocean News. At Rosehill the Club Handicap '.vas won by Gemlight. with Chide second. At Caulfield the Welter Handicap was won by Hyde Park. Both winners started at nearly double figures.

After an absenco of several weeks. Taneriri has resumed work on the tracks at Ellerslie. Taneriri was just coming bark to form when ho waß eased up, and. although tho respite from work may have set him back slightly, ho should not be long in coming to hand when H. Rama begins to send him along" in earnest again.

One of the latest additions to tho active brigade at Ellerslie is a two-yenr-old colt by Adjutant from Capable. Tho newcomer is n half-brother to Maori Boy, and, liko his relative, is moulded on very solid lines. He has been secured oil leaso from Mr. L. W, Nelson by Mr. A. D. Potter and will probably be given a uin at ono of the late autumn meetings.

The St. Leger got to the bottom of Lady Para and she was always tailing off in the Trentham Gold Cup. McTavish did not knock her about when he found she could not rnißo her real form, so that she should come to no harm as the result of tho race. Lady Pani is to be eased a little during tho next fow days and will not run at the Manawatu meeting.

Tho Ellerslie 1 orsemnn L. Dulieu will for Pnlmcrston North t.o-night to ride at tho Manawatu Autumn Meeting, where one of his mounts will bo Takahuo in the Autumn Plate. After tho Manawatu meeting Dulieu will go to the South Island to rido at tho circuit of meetings commencing at Westport on March 28 and concluding at Reefton on April 15.

Puriri Park is to fulfil bis engagements lit the Manawatu Autumn Meeting and bo left for Awaputii on Wednesday evening in charge of F. Gilchrist. Puriri Park has been racing consistently well, and, if ho has not suffered any ill-effects from his two hard raceH at Paeroa, ho should take considerable beating with 7.7 in tho Woodhey Hack Handicap to-morrow.

1?. W. Lewis had a most unfortumite trip to Paeroa with Lost Comet and Billy Boy. Lost Comet broke a fetlock on the first day and had to be destroyed, while Billy Boy injured himself on he morning., of the second day's races t>nd will probably have to be given a long spoil. It was very unlucky for Lewis to lose the services of his two charges, because he has exercised considerable patience with them and had opes that they would prove profitable at tho winter meetings.

ASHHURST TRIP ABANDONED.

After working hia Mannvvatu entrants Carl Mack. Miss Braeside and Pavlova at Epsom yesterday, F. J. Smith decided to abandon tho trip to Ashhurst. Of the trio Pavlova was tho only one to show good form and tho Epsom trainer said he did not feel justified in going South with only ono string to his bow. Carl Mack worked soundly over 12 furlongs, but owing to his interrupted preparation bis prospects at this stage of racing over two miles are not bright enough to warrant the trip. All going well in tho interval Smith will be rspresented at Thames by Pavlova, Carl Mack and Carnui.
