NORFOLK ISLAND, March -1
Mr. Harold Rabone, who collects for the Sydney Museum, is making a second prolonged visit to Norfolk Island. He and Mr. Roy Bell, of Norfolk Island, an erstwhile collector for the British Museum, have been searching for traces of prehistoric inhabitants of the island. At Kingston, near the sea beach, and 6ft. below tho macadamised road built by the convicts nearly 150 years ago, they secured over 300 chips of a hard, flint-like stone, different from any stono found on the island; also two beautiful little axes or chisels, exquisitely shaped and ground to an edge. Messrs. Rabone and Bell spent over a week at the spot, passing all the excavated material through a halfinch sieve. Tho banana trade is booming on the island just now as a result of the shortage on the Sydney market caused by the floods in Queensland. Over 2300 cases were shipped to Sidney last week and another 2000 cases were despatched today. Tho latter shipment was considerably curtailed by the lack of boxes. Guide-Loader Iris Christian and Guide Violet Christian have gone to Sydney to represent there the Norfolk Island corps of Girl Guides at tho gathering of Boy Scouts and Girl Guides to welcome the Chief Scout, Sir Baden-Powell, and Lady Baden-Powell, the head of the Girl Guidei.
