GOVERNMENT LOANS FIRMER. Values showed a considerably firmer tendency on tho Auckland Stock Exchange. yesterday, although tho volume of business done was small. All Government and leading local body stocks were keenly sought, tho demand being particularly strong for tax-free Government issues. Offers for War Bonds, 1938, and 1039, 4£ per cents., moved up 12s 6d and 10s respectively. For Inscribed Stock, 1938, per cent., offers advanced 15s to £95 10s. Business was done in Government Bonds, 1933, 5£ per cent., at £99.

Two sales of New Zealands -at 51s 6d, a rise of 3d on Wednesday's price, were the only sales recorded in tho banking section. Prices generally showed little chango in this section. Insurances were fiftn and steady, New Zealands being dealt in at 425. Goldsbrough-Morts were firm with a gale at 22s 4d. In coals Pukemiros again showed improvement, buyers advancing their offers Is to 34s and sellers quoting 40s. A buyer offered 24s for Wcstports. A parcel of tho contributing issue of Auckland Gas changed hands lato on Wednesday at 16s lOd. Shipping and timber issue? were quiet. In breweries offers for Innes and New Zealands wero unchanged. | Trading in the miscellaneous section was confined to tho salo of a parcel of Milno and Choyce debenture stock at 19s 6d. Sellers quoted Taranaki Oils, subject to the 6d call, at 2s. Buyers for King Solomons advanced their limits Id to Is 7d. Wailiis wero taken Id higher at 15s 6d. CLOSING QUOTATIONS.
