PRESERVATION INLET.

POSSIBILITIES OF GOLD.

Further referenco in Friday's Herald to the gold-bearing possibilities of Preservation Inlet led to the reappearance of a statement, which had been erroneously attributed to Professor R. A. Koble. of the Melbourne who was one of a party of geologists, which recently collected fossils in tho area. In an earlier report Professor Keble was quoted as having said that "in no part of New Zealand is there such promise of rich results as in the vicinity of Preservation Inlet." Not only'has tho authorship of the statement, been denied by Professor Keble, but be has made it plain that no investigation of the lodes, such ar> would lie necessary to reach conclusions as to thsir economic value, was made by the party.
