FEDERAL CONSTITUTION.

GANDHI'S VIEWS SOUGHT.

LONDON. March 13.

Political correspondents state that an attempt probably will be made to induce Gandhi to come to London to take part in the proceedings of the Federal Structure Committee, which is to thrash out vital problems prior to a full round-table conference in the autunm.

• The Secretary of State for India, Mr. Wedgwood Benn, was asked for a statement in the House of Commons about the financial implications of the report of the recent round-table conference referred to in the report of the Federal Structure Committee. He said the importance, now and under a new constitution, of the financial stability of India artd of her credit position could not possibly be exaggerated. It was in India's own interests that she should retain the position of confidence she enjoyed. . ■

It was the considered view of the Government that the safeguards referred to by the Federal Structure Committee, including the powers of the Governor-Gen-eral in relation to currency legislation were essential and could not bo abated if a, new constitution was to be established with success.
