FEATURES OF THE RACING.

FINE FINISH IN THE CUP.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TIMARU, Saturday.

Tho Timnru Cup was one of the best races ever witnessed on the "Washdyke Racecourse, and three • furlongs from home at least a dozen horses appeared to hold winning chances. In a great finish Milo Minto won by half-a-length, while necks separated the next four. The winner proved himself a high-class pacer and he should win in still better company. From a 4.36 mark ho went 4.30 1-5, and ho \tiL' improve still further. Cranleigh «ul Great Author also put up fine performances and wero altogether too good for Red Shadow and Arethusa, both, of whom had every chance.

Biddy Tarn'sh gavo a fine display of trot' ting in the Tomuka Handicap and won in convincing: stylo after being patiently handled by Tomkinaon. She looks like f'oveloping into a finti trotter. Mcrce Bingen had every chance, but she did not have tho speed expected. Lough Guy, only four years old, went a great rnco from 72 yards behind and is one of tho best young trotters in commission.

In thc.Fairlio Handicap, St, George cleared out from Ilia field and made au exhibition of the rest. Ho won pulling up by 20 lengths, and this margin ho could have incrensed He was a short-priced favourite and won with ridiculous case. It will take a big penalty to slop him from winning again.
