RACE FOR NIXON CUP.
ST. GEORGE'S CREW WINS,
The fifth annual inter-club non-class fours race in practice clinker-built boats for the Nixon Cup was rowed at tho Tamaki Yacht Club's regatta on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a victory for the St. George's Club crew by tho narrow margin of half a canvas length. Six crews competed, and splendid water conditions were experienced over the course from Orakei to Ivohimarama. Tho competing crews were Auckland No. 1, W. Duck, A. Bridle, F. Foote, K. Chappell; Auckland No. 2. R, K. Stacey, A. Andrews. A. Coutts, D. Plummer; North Shore. C. "VVilletts, E. Kalaugher, J. Dacra, J. Woodhouse; St. George's, C. D'Authreau, W. Woolhouse. W. Carr, C. .T. Ivelleway: Waitematu, E. Bishop, A. Graham, W. Lowe, .T. Hunn: "West End. 0. Felton, R. Stewart, J. McDonald, R. Parsons. After a long delay tho crews were assembled and sent away to a fino start. The crews kept well together for the first furlong. West End and St. George's then took a slight lead, closely followed by Auckland No. 2 and North Shore. This order was maintained until near the closing stages, when the crews nil spurted. St. George's then took tho lead, with "West End following closely. In an exciting finish St. George's got the verdict by half a canvas from West End. Auckland No. 2 was third three-quarters of a length back, and then followed North Shore almost levol with Auckland. Wnitemata was fifth and Auckland No. 1 .last. Tho previous holders of tho cup are:— Auckland. 192G-27. 1927-2S: St. George's. 1928-29: North Shore, 1929-30.
