WAITOMO COUNTY.
LOANS FOR ROAD WORKS. MOKAUITI NORTH EXTENSION. [from our own correspondent.] t Tl3 KUITI, Saturday. » The Minister of Public Works advised the Waitomo County Council yesterday with regard to the Patoto Road, that if the council submits satisfactory proposals lo the district engineer covering £IOO worth of widening work and is agreeable to any available authority being charged lo its allocation, the authorisation of .CIOO free would be considered to permit of tlin extra narrow portions receiving at tent ion.
The Local Clovcninient Loans Board wrote with reference to the Aualii North Road loan (L2CO), in reply to the county's Idler, slating that it now appeared that the proposed loan plus subsidy on a £1 for £1 basis would not lie sufficient to meet the cost of metalling the full length of 100 chains, of which 40 chains have been formed and 60 chains reformed without expense to the council. The clerk stated that while in Wellington recently lie had interviewed the departmental otliccrs with Mr. Broadfoot and pointed out that originally the council had agreed to a £2 for £1 subsidy, with a limited liability of £2OO on the council ; in his opinion it was expected that, the department would agree to this.
With regard to "the Mokauiti North Road loan (£400), concerning which an objection was made to the short-dated term of the loan, the clerk reported that while in Wellington he, together with Mr. Broadfoot, had interviewed tlio department, and it was ascertained that tlio latter had been under a wrong impression as to tlio road concerned and had decided to extend the Lcrm of the loan to 20 years.
