CLOCKS PUT BACK.
THE END OF SUMMER TIME.
CHANGE MADE YESTERDAY
INCIDENTS IN THE CITY.
Official recognition of summer came to ,-in end at 2 o'clock yesterday morning when clocks which were advanced by half an hour on October 13 in accordance with the Summertime Act, were retarded by the same period. Nearly all tho principal city clocks were showing tho correct time yesterday, but the owners of several others were obviously waiting until business commenced today before making the necessary alteration.
In spito of the usual warnings a considerable number of people rose earlier than necessary yesterday and most churches had a small gathering outside their doors half an hour before the commencement of services.
During tho last few weeks tho days havo been getting noticeably shorter and yesterday, owing to the reversion to normal time and the dull, cloudy evening, tho early darkness was very marked. City residents in tho habit of playing a few holes cf golf or a set of tenniSj or working iri their gardens after office hours, will havo many regrets this week at tho loss of their extra half-hour of leisure in the evening.
