OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN WALTER BRINDLEY. The death lias occurred of Mr. Jolin Walter Brindley, of Tnknptinn, aged 79 years. lie was formerly a well-known figuro in iho New Zealand insuranco world. Mr. Brindley, who was for some lime general manager of the Stato Fire Oflleo, was one of the few surviving passengers who made an adventurous voyage to New Zealand in the sailing slip Dalian Tower in 1873.
TJpon his arrival in New Zealand Mr. Brindley took up his residence in Dunedin and was at an early ago manager of the Victorian Insurance Company, lie later became general manager, but relinquished this office, after having been in Dunediri and also in Invercargill for 25 years, in order to go into business on his own account in Australia. Later ho returned to New Zealand and was appoint-' to the general managership of the St.ito Fire Insurance Office. After some years spent in organising this enterprise Mr. Brindley retired from active business. Ho was in addition one of the earliest justices of the peace in New Zealand, having been appointed under tho Atkinson Government.
Mr. Brindley is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. One son, Mr. E. R. Brindley. is in Auckland, the other, Mr. Norman Brindley, being manager of the London Assurance Coiporation in llobart. The daughters • are Mrs. S. Perry, of Sydney, and Mrs. S. Jackson, of Queensland.
