CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS RESUMED. RUSSELL AND HARDLEY IN FINAL. Inter-section play in the Auckland Bowling Centre's 'championship pairs tourney was commenced at the Carlton green yesterday morning, three rounds being completed. The competition was reduced to tho final, which will he played between C. Hardley (West End) and L. Russell (Hemuera) on the Carlton green to-morrow at two o'clock.

The greens were in fine order throughout (lie day and the play wiir interesting for tho most part without being unduly exciting, except in a few instances. Tho onelife, or sudden-death, principle was adopted throughout the inter-section play.

Following were tho results:— First Round.—C. Hardley (West End), 22. v. O. Bosking (Carlton), 15. Second Round. —Buxton (Carlton), 20, v. Wooller (Hemuera), 13; Mingins (Hemuera), 21, v. Gardiner (Otahului), 17; Hardley (West End), 20, v. Clarkson (Carlton), IS; Russell (Hemuera), 21, v. Sheath (Hemuera), 19.

Hardley experienced an easy win in the first round, showing all-round superiority in his play. Iloslting could never settle down properly and found difficulty in countering his opponent's fine drawing. Tho only game of outstanding interest in tho second round was that between Hardley (West End) and Clarkson (Carlton), the former winning after a closo contest. Even scoring characterised tho major part of the game, but on tho last head tho score was 20—If! in Ilardley's favour. Clarkson drew two on the final head, a West End bowl preventing him from getting four. Ho endeavoured twico to remove this bowl and thus level the scores, but was unsuccessful, going down by 20 —18. Two points only separated Russell (Hemuera) and Sheath (Hemuera), but tho former had tho game well in hand throughout. The remaining games of the second round wero rather one-sided. The semi-finnls, commenced in tlio afternoon, drew a fair gallery of spectators but the play witnessed wns not very exciting, although thero wero occasional flashes of brilliant play. Hardley drew Buxton in tho semi-finnl and experienced littlo difficulty in securing a victory. The other semi-final match between Russell (Hemuera) and Mingins (Hemuera) was u very even contest, tho result being in doubt until tho final bowl was played. Mingins started off well and soon established a lead, tho score being o—20 —2 in his favour on tho sixth head. Russell recovered gradually and soon had his opponent's lead reduced. Tho score on tho 18th head was 20—15 in Mingins' favour, but Russell and his lead, playing a very steady game, picked up another two points on tho next head. It wns at this point that Mingins dropped away unaccountably, wasting his whole four bowls on tlio 20th head by poor drawing, and allowing his opponent to take four from tho head. Tho game was now 21—20 in Russell's favour. A very closo head resulted in the final play, Mingins dcjiwing finely to place himself one up with two howls to £o. Russell played a beautiful running shot, however, taking (he kitty through for shot, which position Mingins failed to alter with his last bowl, which entered tho ditch. AUCKLAND CLUB.
