LAMBETH CONFERENCE.

RESOLUTIONS CRITICISED. BROADCAST OF SERVICES. LONDON, Jan. 21. Canon C. Long, of Birmingham, who said the resolutions passed by tho recent Lambeth Conference of bishops regarding birth control and divorce were revolutionary, urged tho Lower House of the Convocation of Canterbury to appoint a committee to examine tho resolutions, before holding a general debate on them. The canon said: " Although many persons whom we know and respect are prepared to support tho bishops' limited approval of birth control, these resolutions have genuinely distressed and perplexed a very large number of clergy and lay people, who deeply regret that tho bishops have given even limited approval of contraceptives, the use of which, as tho bishops admit, is open to great and terrible abuse. The canon's proposal was carried by 53 votes to 50. Tho Bishop of Ely, Dr. J. L. WhiteThomson, in presenting the committee's report on the value of broadcast services said it showed that tho religious broadcasts were very valuable. There was no evidence to show that they prevented church-going. Also, there was no evidence that, people leant back in their armchairs smoking and taking the services too casually.
