WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
N GATE A. At a meeting of Iho Ngatoa Women's Institute two new members were admitted. It. was decided to fix tho ago limit of junior members at 16 years. The pre sidont, Mrs. E. A. Mahoney, reported on the combined meeting held at Nctherlon last month, when a group had been formed. It also hurl been decided to hold a combined institute picnic at Waiomio on January 29. It was agreed that as a com nninity work the institute would make or collect articles of clothing for ono of the missions. The articles would bo col lected at the monthly meeting in May next and sent to the mission as members may determine. The roll call for the day was a firstaid hint and the competition was for the prettiest and most useful article made from a sugar bag. A child's apron, made, by Mrs. 15. A. Mahonev, was awarded lirst prizsc for the prettiest, and an apron made by Mrs. T. Wheeler gained first as the most useful. Competitions were won by Mesdames J. Me-Kin-liar and ft. Birkenhead.
Afternoon tea was provided by the hostesses, Mesdames Foster, Hayward, Johanson, Mahoney and Miss Hayward.
